Criminal Justice Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the criminal justice program students will:

  1. Recognize, understand, and critique historical trends, major theories, and perspectives that have impacted the field
  2. Analyze the effects of ethnicity, class, age, gender and other social characteristics as they relate to social behavior, their impact on the current and alternative justice systems, primarily within Western societies.
  3. Critique global, but particularly common and alternative Western justice systems approaches, and the people they serve.
  4. Understand specific national and international laws, crimes, and criminal justice systems regarding both their internal and international practices, effects and relations.
  5. Relate and apply one’s own faith commitment to a criminal justice perspective that enables one to promote justice, humility, peace, and love.
  6. Define and understand the various subsystems of criminal justice in relation to each other and the Restorative justice perspective.

Throughout the year assessment data is gathered through senior and alumni surveys, field experience evaluations, internship reflections, an exit interview, and course embedded assessments to determine how well the program is meeting its student learning outcomes.
