Opportunities that launch.
Trinity Christian College’s size and location offer students of physical education opportunities not found at most colleges. Top-notch faculty and a strong education program will prepare you for your future. The new DeVos Athletics and Recreation Complex has more space for class activities as well as a Human Performance Lab providing hands-on learning in exercise testing.
The physical education teaching major equips students to become excellent teachers and coaches. Graduates attain a K-12 teaching specialist certificate through the State of Illinois. The exercise science or sport and leisure studies majors are useful for students entering either the health, fitness, or recreation fields and graduate studies. Combining the foundational classes of the major with exceptional internship and student teaching opportunities also provides other positions for graduates.
Trinity’s intramural program supplements your study in physical education, and is one of the most popular activities on campus. Eighty percent of the student body participates in one or more intramural teams during the school year. Among the favorite options are 5-on-5 basketball, floor hockey, and indoor soccer.
Gain momentum with intensive studies.
The study of energy and motion, and the study of life (biology), are merged in the discipline of physical education. Upper level classes include the following: Foundations of Physical Education and Sports; Recreation and Leisure Studies; Prevention and Treatment of Sports Injuries; Measurement and Evaluation in Physical Education; Principles of Coaching; Exercise Physiology; Management of Physical Education and Athletic Programs; Structural Kinesiology; Issues in Physical Education and Sports; Teaching Physical Education in Grades K-12.
Be a community catalyst.
Trinity athletes participate in intercollegiate sports, help to organize the intramural program, coach at local schools, assist with Trinity-sponsored camps and tournaments, and gain the experience needed for future careers. Students pursuing teaching certificates may have one or two student teaching placements during their senior year. This experience has proven invaluable, helping students to realize where they feel most comfortable teaching, and has given them more connections for future employment.
Alumni that prove our point.
A majority of physical education majors become teachers, while others seek professional job opportunities as coaches in youth programs, physical fitness directors, and recreation directors. Trinity’s highly qualified and caring physical education faculty will guide you as you choose a program of study to suit your career goals.
