Softball Splits
With Wheaton (3/18/05)
The Trolls picked
up their first win of the season as they split the results of a double
header with Wheaton College (IL). The Trolls shut-out Wheaton in the first
game, 1-0, but then gave up the second game 2-3. With the win the team
is now 1-8 for the season.
In the first
game the team gave up nine hits, but behind solid defense and the pitching
of Michelle Wories, they were able to hold the Wheaton runners and
keep them from crossing the plate. The Trolls got on the board in the top
of the third inning. Laura Arendsen got on base with a walk and
stole second to get in to scoring position. With two outs Sarah Lerner
connected on a single that brought Arendsen in for the only run
of the game. Overall the Trolls had 5 hits for the game with Lerner grabbing
two of those.
In the second
game the Trolls took the early lead as Allison Vander Werff started
the inning with a double. She was moved around the bases by a sacrifice
by Courtney Krasoczka and a ground out by Michelle Cooke.
Wheaton pulled ahead in the bottom of the third inning with three hits
and two runs. The Trolls were able to tie the game in their next at bat
when Stephanie Koedyker walked and Krasoczka brought her
home with a double. Again in the fifth inning Wheaton put together three
hits to score one more run and take the lead. The Trolls did not threaten
the plate in the remaining innings and the final was 3-2.
The team will
play next on Monday, March 21, at Purdue University-North Central (IN)
in a conference double header at 3:00 pm.
