Baseball
Takes Two at University of Chicago (4/2/05)
Upon returning
from their Florida spring break trip the Trolls took on the University
of Chicago in a double header. It was a good outing for the team as they
picked up two wins and moved back to the .500 mark for the season. The
first game was a 5-3 victory and the second was an 8-2 win. The Trolls
are now 8-8 for the season.
In the first
game the Trolls got on the board in the first inning as Andrew Van Byssum
hit a triple followed by a double by Nick Richards. The University
of Chicago tied it up in the bottom of the inning. A series of hits by
in the 3rd inning gave the Trolls one more run. They lost the lead for
a brief period in the 6th inning when University of Chicago scored two
more to take a 3-2 lead. However, Richards tripled for his 4th hit
of the game in the 7th inning to tie it up and force the game into extra
innings. In the top of the 8th Tim Lanenga and Rob Emmons
both singled to get on base. With two outs Van Byssum connected
for a double to drive in those two runners.
The Trolls did
not take control of the second game until late in the contest. They trailed
1-0 going into the 6th inning. In that at bat the Trolls got runners on
base and connected on three hits to score 3 runs. The University of Chicago
gained one run back in the bottom of the inning. In the 7th inning with
one out Emmons got on base with a double. Another out later Van
Byssum, Richards, and Hoyt all singled to score two runs.
Adam McIntyre then homered to drive in 3 more runs and came across
the plate himself on a single by Aaron Werkman. Dan Herder was
on the mound for the duration, giving up just 4 hits.
The team's next
contest is a conference double header against Purdue-North Central at home
on April 6 at 1:00 pm.
