Baseball Battles With Judson College   (4/8/05)
The baseball team fought hard in a conference double header with Judson College. Both of the games were close and came down to the final innings for a decision. The Trolls dropped the first game, 3-2, but came back to win the second game, 5-4. The team is now 10-10 for the season and 2-2 in the conference.

The Trolls were handed two runs in the first inning of game one as Judson committed errors that allowed runners to cross the plate. Those were the only two runs the team scored as they only had 2 hits the entire game. However they were able to keep Judson in check during most of the game. Judson tied the game on unearned runs, one in the 4th and one in the 5th.  Tied 2-2, Judson opened the bottom of the 7th inning with a double. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runner and the single that followed allowed the score to end the game.

The Trolls did not get the bats going in the second game until the 5th inning. By that time they were trailing 1-0. Their first hit of the game was a double by Darren DeBoer that drove in their first run. In the 6th inning the Trolls picked up 3 more runs on hits from Mike Mercier, Nick Richards, and Kale Hoyt. The Trolls made it 5-1 in the 7th inning as Joel DeRuiter got on base with a single and a hit by Mercier brought him home. Judson made it interesting in the bottom of that inning as they scored 3 runs before the Trolls were able to get the third out. Dan Herder was on the mound for the 7 innings and picked up his 5th victory of the season.

The team will play Saturday, April 9, in a conference double header with Robert Morris College at noon.
