Drops Two Games to Olivet Nazarene (4/14/05)
The Trolls struggled
to get the hits they needed against the top CCAC school of Olivet Nazarene
University (IL). As a result they dropped two games, 9-2 and 5-0 and fell
to 3-6 in the conference standings. The Trolls connected on only four hits
in the first game and three in the second game while giving up a total
of 19 hits. The losses make the team 11-14 overall.
In game one the
Trolls trailed 3-0 after the first two innings. The third inning was trouble
for the team as Olivet capitalized on a few hits and base runners to score
six more runs. The only runs the Trolls scored came in the bottom of that
inning when Mike Mercier and Aaron Werkman got on base with
singles. By the end of the inning the score was 9-2 and it stayed there
until the final out.
The Trolls held
Olivet scoreless through the first three innings of game two. That all
changed in the fourth inning when Olivet took advantage at the plate and
scored four runs. The Trolls could not get the ball out of the infield
to advance their runners to scoring position. They were able to hold Olivet
until the seventh inning when they picked up one more run for the 5-0 final.
The team will
play again on Saturday, April 16, in a conference double header at the
University of St. Francis (IL) at 1:30 pm.
