Track and
Field Shot Putters Lead the Way

In a meet at
Elmhurst College (IL) the shot putters came out on top as they took first
place in both the women's and men's event. Jomyla McKinnie set a
school record with her first place throw of 38'1.25". Thomas Donovan's
top finish was a school record throw of 44'8.25".
Overall the women's
team finished in 7th place with 38 points. Besides her shot put place,
McKinnie also earned points by finishing 4th in the discus, setting
another school record (113'6"). Esther Peters and Sandra
Hoekstra earned 3rd and 4th place honors respectively in the 400 meter
hurdles. Peters also finished 8th in the 100 meter hurdle race.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team took a third place finish with a school record
time of 4.21.84. Although she did not place in the final standings, Kaitlin
Merrow had a great day in the sprints, setting school records in the
100 meter (13.99) and the 200 meter (28.46).
The men's team
tallied 13 points for the day. Donovan earned 10 of those points
with his first place shot put finish. Rich Visser picked up the
other 3 points as he finished 6th in the 3000 meter steeplechase. His time
of 10:26.5 was a school record in that event. One other school record fell
for the day as Scott Nuismer ran a 54.23 in the 400 meter.
The teams will
compete on Saturday, April 23, at Olivet Nazarene University in a meet
starting at 10:30 am.
