Defeated in Extra Inning Game with Saint Xavier (4/19/05)
The baseball
team played tough baseball for 9 innings and then let the game slip away
from in the extra inning. The Trolls were up 3-2 against conference opponent
Saint Xavier University (IL) going into the 9th inning. They gave up the
tying run in the 9th inning and then three runs in the 10th inning for
the 6-3 loss. The team is now 12-16 for the season and 4-8 in the conference.
The Trolls did
not have many hits throughout the game, but they used what they had well.
Trailing 1-0 after 2 innings the Trolls got on the board in the 3rd inning
as Darren DeBoer opened that inning with a double. Saint Xavier
gained one more in the 4th inning to go back ahead. A triple by Andrew
Van Byssum to open the 5th inning allowed the Trolls to tie the game
2-2. They took the lead in the 6th inning when hits by Rob Emmons
and Joel DeRuiter produced a run. The Trolls held that lead until
the 9th inning. A solo homer by Saint Xavier's first batter tied the game.
The Trolls were 3-up and 3-down in the bottom of the inning. Saint Xavier
took the lead immediately in the 10th inning on another solo homerun and
then connected on three more hits to score a total of three runs. In the
bottom of the inning the Trolls got two runners on base, but could not
get the runs to keep the game alive.
The team's next
game is a double header on Friday, April 22, at IU-Northwest at 2:00 pm.
