Track
and Field Competes At NCCAA Nationals

The track and
field season came to a close as some of the top athletes competed in the
NCCAA National Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University (Marion, IN).
The Trolls had three women qualify in individual events - Jomyla McKinnie
in the shot put and discus, Amy Hoving in the 800 meter and 1500
meter, and Esther Peters in the 400 meter hurdles. The men's team
had qualifiers in the field events with Matt Pfadenhauer in the
javelin and Thomas Donovan in the shot put. In addition some other
athletes competed as "potential place finishers" in individual events and
in relays.
The women's team
finished tied for 13th place with 4 points. Those points were earned by
McKinnie with a 6th place in the shot put with a throw of 38'09"
and by the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Sandra Hoekstra, Carrie
Flowers, Diana Brickman, and Amy Hoving, who finished
in 8th place at 9:57.31 (a school record). Other school records were set
by the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Peters, Kaitlin Merrow,
b, Flowers (53.81) and by the 4 x 400 meter relay team of McCarthy,
Merrow, Ashley Afman, and Hoving.
The men's team
picked up just one point for a 15th place finish. That point was earned
by the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Ryan Bruxvoort, Scott Nuismer, Jeremy
Oosterhouse, and Rich Visser with a team of 8:35.82. Three of
those runners, Visser, Bruxvoort, and Nuismer, along with
Jesse Marlink set a school record in the 4 x 400 meter relay with
a time of 3:32.21.
