Bows Out of CCAC Tournament (2/22/06)
The No. 3 seeded
Trolls shut down in the second half of a conference tournament semi-final
game against No. 2 Judson College. After trailing by only one point at
the half, the team let the game get away from them in the second period
for a 72-51 loss. The defeat brings the Trolls to a 17-13 overall record.
The beginning
of the game promised what a semi-final game should, with the score tied
after five minutes of play. Over the next several minutes Judson slowly
built a lead and went ahead by eight points. The Trolls were not going
to let them get away and by the intermission had narrowed the gap to just
one point, 35-34.
Two minutes into
the second half the score was tied 40-40. Judson then went on a 9-0 run
to pull ahead. With 7:38 to play the Trolls had moved to within five points,
55-50. However the only point they put on the board for the rest of the
game was one free throw. Meanwhile Judson continued to extend their lead
and march to the victory.
For the game
the Trolls were led in scoring by Jess Eenigenburg with 23 points,
including 4 for 5 from the arc. Barbie Heerdt had 14 points and
Alissa Barr added 8. Sarah Lerner and Kim Van Drunen
each grabbed 6 rebounds.
The Trolls will
participate in the NCCAA Region Tournament to be held on March 3-4.
