Softball
Season Has Begun (3/13/06)
The Trolls have
six games completed of their 2006 season schedule. They made a trip to
Evangel University (MO) on March 3-4 to open their season. The Trolls came
up short in that early tournament with four losses. Last weekend they got
in the win column as they hosted MacMurray College (IL) and grabbed two
wins.
The multi-team
Evangel University Show Me Softball Tournament provided the Trolls with
some stiff competition. In their pool play on Friday they lost 7-2 to Baker
College (KS) in the opener. That game was followed by a 10-2 loss to the
University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Their final pool game was an 8-1 defeat
to McKendree College (IL). On the following morning the Trolls got in one
game, a 14-5 loss to Columbia College (MO), before the tournament was called
due to poor weather conditions.
For that weekend
the Trolls recorded 20 hits in their 92 at bats for a 2.17 batting average.
Michelle Cooke was the leader at .444. Michelle Wories and
Vicki Fennema split the pitching duties, each posting a 0-2 record.
On March 11 the
team hosted MacMurray College in a doubleheader. In the first game they
scored two runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning
to take a 5-0 lead. MacMurray gained one back in the seventh for the 5-1
final. Michelle Wories was the winning pitcher.
In the second
game the Trolls jumped to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. They added
one more run in the third inning and held the opponent scoreless. After
five innings with a score of 8-0 the game ended on the mercy rule. Vicki
Fennema gave up only one hit and gets the shut-out. The Trolls had
eight hits for the game, including a homer by Gail Landini.
The Trolls are
scheduled to play on March 14 at home against Bethel College at 3:00 pm.
