Splits With Wheaton College (3/18/06)
On a crisp Saturday
afternoon the Trolls hosted Wheaton College (IL) in a non-conference double-header.
The team got off to a rocky start and dropped the first game 6-1, but came
back in the second game and took a 7-3 victory. They are now 3-7 for the
season.
In the first
game Wheaton hit two solo homers in the first inning to take a lead that
they did not give up. With two hits in each the second and third inning
the Thunder was able to make it 4-0 after three innings. That score held
until the fifth inning when Allison Vanderwerff doubled to get on
base and was brought home by a Laura Arendsen single. However that
was all the Trolls could muster and Wheaton connected on two more doubles
to score two more runs in the final inning.
It was the Trolls
who got on top in the second game as they connected on four hits for three
runs in the first inning. Wheaton closed the gap to 3-2 after the third
inning. Trinity picked up one run in the fourth and one run in the fifth
on a home run by Stephanie Koedyker to make it 6-2. The Thunder
gained one back in the sixth inning, but a two-run homer by Arendsen,
who ended the game with three hits, made the final 7-3.
Overall the Trolls
had 19 hits for the day, 13 in the second game. Allison Vanderwerff
and Laura Arendsen each collected four while Stacey Wagner
and Stephanie Koedyker each had 3. Freshman Nicole Heyboer
got the win on the mound in the second game.
The team will
host Purdue-North Central (IN) on March 20 at 3:00 pm.
