Posts Opening Conference Wins (3/20/06)
In their first
conference games of the season the Trolls got off to a good start with
two wins over Purdue University-North Central (IN). The team broke the
first game open in the sixth inning for a 6-3 win. They got the bats going
in the second game for a five inning mercy rule 11-0 victory. They are
now 5-7 for the season and 2-0 in the CCAC.
A home run by
Stephanie Koedyker, her third of the season, in the bottom of the
third inning put the Trolls on the board in the first game. Gail Landini
came up with a bloop hit in the fourth inning to drive in one more
run. The Trolls then made it 6-0 in the sixth inning on hits by Michelle
Cooke, Landini, and Amber Heaney. Purdue-North Central
prevented the shut-out in the seventh inning with a single followed by
two home runs for three runs.
The second game
belonged to the Trolls from the start as they jumped to a 5-0 lead after
the first inning. In all they had 10 hits for the game, including three
doubles by Michelle Cooke, a double and home run by Gail Landini,
and a double by Vicki Fennema. Five of the hits came in the third
inning to make the score 10-0 at the conclusion of that at-bat. The Trolls
picked up one more in the fourth inning. Purdue-North Central was able
to load the bases in the 5th inning, but did not get a runner across the
plate.
Vicki Fennema
pitched
the seven innings of the first game for the win and Michelle Wories
gets the win and shut-out in game two.
The Trolls will
play next on March 21 at Judson College in a conference double-header at
5 pm.
