Completes Spring Break Trip (4/1/06)
During the College's
spring break week the softball team competed in four doubleheaders in Florida.
The Trolls came away with a 1-7 record, picking up their lone victory at
the end of the week. The team is now 6-14 for the season.
The Trolls started
the week with two good games at St. Thomas University (Miami, FL). They
were ahead in both of those games, but ended up losing the first one 6-4
and the second one 2-1. There were some costly errors in the games that
hurt their chances.
On Tuesday the
Trolls dropped two more games; this time to Northwood University (West
Palm Beach, FL). The fought hard in the first game, but struggled to get
hits and lost 3-0. In the second game Northwood ended it in the fifth inning
on the mercy rule with a 9-1 lead.
The third doubleheader
for the week was at Nova Southeastern University (Ft. Lauderdale, FL).
The first game was a 2-3 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Nova
scored 3 runs to take the 6-3 victory. In the second game the Trolls could
not stop the hitting of Nova and lost after five innings, 10-0.
The team's only
victory for the week came in game one against Palm Beach Atlantic University
(West Palm Beach, FL). The Trolls scored eight runs in the fifth inning
to take an 8-0 lead. They held Palm Beach in the bottom of the inning for
the mercy run rule. The second game was a turn- around as the Trolls
were shut out with a 5-0 loss.
For the week
the team had a .191 batting average. Sarah Lerner led the team at
.400 with 8 hits. Allison Vanderwerff batted .261 and led the team
with 3 RBIs. The Trolls had a .913 fielding percentage. Michelle Wories
was 1-3 on the mound with a 2.88 ERA. Vicki Fennema was 0-3 with
a 4.47 ERA.
The team resumes
play on March 5 in a scrimmage competition against Purdue-North Central
