Drops Two Conference Games (4/6/06)
The softball
team suffered two conference losses in a doubleheader at Olivet Nazarene
University (IL). The Trolls, who entered the game with a 2-0 CCAC record,
lost the first game 6-1 and then dropped the second game, 8-3. The team
is now 6-16 for the season.
In the first
game each team was able to get hits, but Olivet produced more runs out
of their at bats. The Tigers scored one run in the first inning and one
run in the third inning to make it 2-0. The Trolls only run of the game
came in the fourth inning as Sarah Lerner had a single and was brought
in by a Michelle Cooke hit. Olivet gained two more in the fifth
and two in the sixth for the 6-1 final.
Olivet took the
lead in the second game on a 2-0 start after two innings. The Trolls came
back in the top of the third to tie the game when Lerner drove in two runs.
However Olivet answered with three more hits in the bottom of the inning
to make it 5-2. Each team scored a run in the fourth inning. Finally in
the sixth inning Olivet took a larger lead and made it 8-3, which held
until the end of the game.
For the two games
the Trolls had 14 hits with a .269 batting average. Allison Vanderwerff
was 6 for 8, Michelle Cooke was 3 for 6, and Amber
Heaney and Sarah Lerner were at .400. Michelle Wories pitched
the first game with a 4.67 ERA. Vicki Fennema was on the mound for
five innings of the second game and Nichole Heyboer finished the
final inning.
The Trolls will
play in a tournament in Elgin, IL on Saturday. Their game times are 10:00
am, 11:45 am, and 2:30 pm.
