Softball Gets Three Wins   (4/8/06)
In a tournament in Elgin, Illinois three team of the CCAC faced three schools of the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC). The Trolls came out ahead in the match-ups against these Indiana schools with a 3-0 record for the day. They defeated Goshen College, 12-4, Huntington University, 4-0, and Taylor University, 7-4. The wins improve the team's record to 9-16 for the season. 

The Trolls took control of the Goshen game in the first couple of innings. They scored one run in the first inning and then six more in the second to jump to a 7-0 lead. Goshen gained two runs in the third inning to get on the board. Laura Arendsen started the scoring in the fourth inning with a home run. Three more runners crossed the plate to make it 11-2 after that inning. Goshen got two in the fifth inning to force the Trolls to take their at bat. Allison Vanderwerff got on base and eventually scored to end the game on the mercy rule. 

The game against Huntington started more slowly with a combined 11 strike outs in the first three innings. The Trolls then scored a run in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth inning. A home run by Sarah Lerner in the sixth inning gave the team two more runs to make it 4-0. That score held in the final inning for the win. 

Laura Arendsen and Michelle Cooke each had home runs in the first inning of the game against Taylor to spur the Trolls to a 4-0 start. A homer by Stephanie Koedyker in the third inning gave the Trolls as 6-2 lead. That score held until the seventh inning when TCC added one more and Taylor finished with two for the 7-4 final. 

For the day the team had 22 hits for the three games. Laura Arendsen had six, including two home runs and double. Sarah Lerner (home run), Gail Landini (triple, double), Stephanie Koedyker (home run), and Michelle Cooke (home run) each had three hits apiece. Michelle Wories, Vicki Fennema, and Nichole Heyboer each got wins on the mound. 

The Trolls host Robert Morris College on Monday, April 10, in a conference doubleheader at 3:00 pm.
