Splits with Judson (4/12/06)
The Trolls went
1-1 in a conference doubleheader against Judson College (IL). The team
shut out Judson in the first game with a 3-0 win. They did not fare as
well in game two with a 5-1 loss. They are now 11-18 for the season and
4-4 in the conference.
In the first
game the team scored all their runs in the third inning. Vicki Fennema
was
hit by a pitch to get on base to lead off the inning. Amber Heaney
followed with a base hit bunt. A double by Allison Vanderwerff moved
the runners and brought Fennema home. A sacrifice fly by Stacey
Wagner scored Heaney. Laura Arendsen's at bat resulted
in an out, but brought the third run across the plate. Judson only had
five runners on base the entire game.
In the second
game Judson scored in the first inning to take the 1-0 lead. The Trolls
tied it up in the second inning. Judson got a couple of hits in the third
inning for two runs and then a homerun and two doubles in the fifth inning
made it 5-1. The Trolls struggled in the middle innings and were three
up and three down. They were able to get something going in the seventh
inning and got runners in scoring position. However they were not
able to bring them home and took the 5-1 loss.
The Trolls had
eight hits for the day. Gail Landini had two of those and Allison
Vanderwerff got the team's only extra-base hit. Michelle Wories
gets the win and the shut-out for the first game.
They will host
Cardinal Stritch University (WI) at Thursday, April 13, at 3:00 pm.
