Rallies in Game Two for a Win (4/13/06)
For the third
time this week the Trolls split the results of a conference doubleheader.
The team got off to a rocky start in the first game against Cardinal Stritch
University and lost that game 7-2. They trailed through most of game two
until a sixth inning charge that gave them the 6-4 victory. The team is
now 12-19 overall and 5-5 in the CCAC.
After three innings
in the first game the Trolls had been through their batting order once
and eight of those nine batters had struck out. By that time Cardinal Stritch
had two runs on the board. Stritch went ahead 3-0 in the top of the fourth
before the Trolls answered back. Stacey Wagner and Laura Arendsen
got things started with base hits. They both eventually scored. However
those were the only scoring opportunities the team had for the rest of
the game. Cardinal Stritch scored two more in the fifth and two in the
sixth for the 7-2 win.
In the second
game each tem had two hits for one run in the first inning. A solo homer
by Stritch in the fourth inning and two more runs in the fifth inning made
it 4-1. Instead of taking a loss the Trolls rallied in the sixth inning.
That at bat started with a double by Laura Arendsen, followed by
singles by Sarah Lerner and Stephanie Koedyker, and then
back-to-back doubles by Michelle Cooke and Gail Landini.
Those hits produced four runs to give the Trolls the lead. Two outs later
Allison Vanderwerff connected on a single that brought in one more
run to make it 6-4. Although Stritch got two runners on base in the seventh
inning the Trolls held them for the win.
For the two games
the team had 13 hits, 10 of which came in the second game. Michelle
Cooke led the team with three hits, including two doubles. Nichole
Heyboer pitched the second game for the win.
The Trolls will
play in a tournament at Iowa Wesleyan College on Friday and Saturday.
