Softball Victorious Over Calumet-St. Joseph  (4/17/06)
The Trolls moved above the .500 mark in their conference standings with two wins over Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN). The team easily took the first game, 10-1, and then battled for the 12-11 win in game two. The Trolls are now 15-23 overall and 7-5 in the CCAC. 

In the first game the Trolls jumped to a 4-0 first inning lead. Calumet got on the board in the third inning with a couple of hits. The Trolls picked one more up in the fourth and one in the fifth to go ahead 6-1. They took advantage of a number of errors in the sixth inning to get runners on base. Sarah Lerner then hit a double that helped drive in three runs. In all the Trolls got four runs in that inning for the 10-1 win.

Again in the second game the Trolls jumped to a big start, scoring six runs in the first inning. Calumet gained one in the second and the Trolls one in the third. Then in the bottom of that inning Calumet went on a run and scored seven runs to take an 8-7 lead. The Trolls quickly recovered and returned to the top spot in the fourth inning with two runs. A triple by Lerner in the seventh inning made it 12-8. Calumet made a run at it in the final inning, scoring three runs to pull to within one. They had a runner in scoring position with only one out, but the Trolls retired the inning for the win. 

The team had 18 hits for the day with Sarah Lerner and Allison Vanderwerff each grabbing four of those. Vicki Fennema got both wins on the mound, pitching all six innings of the first game and 3.2 innings in game two. 

The Trolls will host Saint Xavier University (IL) on April 18 in a 3:00 pm doubleheader.
