Softball
Denied by University of St. Francis (4/24/06)
The Trolls,
who are just on the outside of the conference standings that will get them
to the CCAC tournament, needed a couple of wins to help their cause. It
did not happen as they hosted the University of St. Francis in a doubleheader
and lost 3-1 and 9-1. The team is now 16-29 for the season and 7-9 in the
conference.
The only Troll
run in the first game was a solo homer by Sarah Lerner in the second
inning. St. Francis answered with a home run to tie the game in the fourth
inning. They picked up one more in the fifth and one in the seventh to
end the game at 3-1.
In game two the
Trolls once again took the lead on a solo-over-the fence shot in the first
inning. This time it was Laura Arendsen with the long ball. St.
Francis scored once in the second and twice in the third to go ahead 3-1.
It was not until the seventh inning that St. Francis added a fistful of
runs to widen the gap to 9-1. The Trolls had plenty of opportunities to
score as they had runners on base every inning. However they left 14 runners
on base throughout the game.
For the day Sarah
Lerner and Michelle Cooke each had three hits. Michelle Wories
was on the mound for the first game loss. Vicki Fennema takes the
loss in game two with 6.1 innings pitched.
The Trolls will
host Trinity International University in a conference doubleheader at 4:00
pm on April 25.
