Track and
Field Teams Compete at NCCAA Indoor Championships (2/24/07)
Members of the
men's and women's track and field teams competed in the NCCAA Indoor Championships
held at Taylor University (IN). The men's team scored six points in relay
events for a 10th place finish out of 14 teams. The women's team placed
in a two relays and picked up three individual places for 14 points and
a 9th place finish.
Joseph Muzuma
and
Mike Burr were a part of the 4 x 400, 4 x 800, and distance medley
relay teams that scored points. Sam Mahtani and Joshua Muzuma joined the
duo in the 4 x 400 for an 8th place finish with a time 3:43.91. The 4 x
800 team, which included Joseph Lerner and Josh Seegert,
ran 8:30.06 for a sixth place. Despite tripping and falling in the first
leg of the distance medley relay, the team of Muzuma, Muzuma, Burr and
Andy
Jellema ran 11:00.88 and took 7th place, only three seconds out of
fourth place.
Individually
Andy
Jellema set a school record in the 3000 meter with a time of 9:09.42.
He just missed scoring points with a 9th place finish. Sam Mahtani also
took 9th place with a leap of 18'06.5" in the long jump.
For the women
the Trolls picked up two place finishes in the high jump. Katie VanderArk
was
sixth in the high jump at 5'1" while teammate Emily Buter cleared
4'11" for 8th place.
Buter
also scored with a fifth place finish in the 400 meter with a school record
time of 1:01.59. Rita DeJong and Megan VanHofwegen just missed
placing as they both recorded a time o 1:02.46.
VanderArk,
Buter, VanHofwegen, and DeJong joined together to place and
set school records in the 4 x 200 and the 4 x 400 meter relays. They recorded
a time of 1:52.17 for 5th place in the 4 x 200 and 4:18.66 for 7th place
in the 4 x 400.
The teams will
compete in a meet at Carthage College on March 2.
