Track and
Field Wraps Up Indoor Season (3/2/07)
The track and
field team completed the indoor portion of their schedule at the Gill Last
Change Meet hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A quartet
of freshman established a total of six school records in the competition.
Joshua Muzuma
paced the men's team by placing third in the 800 meter run with a school-record
time of 1:59.92. Sophomore Andy Jellema was close behind in eighth
place in a time of 2:02.13. The two also teamed with Josh Seegert
and Joseph Muzuma to take fifth in the 4 x 400 relay in 3:40.02.
In other action,
Mike
Burr finished third in the 400 meters in 53.93 and took 15th in the
200 meters in 24.88. Joey Lerner ran the 5,000 meters and placed
10th in 18:58.57.
On the women's
side, freshman Megan Van Hofwegen set a pair of school records.
She established a mark of 7.72 in the 55 meter dash and came back to place
fifth in the 200 meters in 27.92. Emily Buter also topped
two Trinity records, running 9.54 in the 55 meter hurdles and 1:01.42 in
the 400 meters to finish third. The final school record came from Katie
VanderArk who finished second in the long jump with a leap of 16'00.5".
She was also fourth in the high jump at 4'11.75".
In other results,
Rita
DeJong came in seventh in the 800 meters in 2:32.83 and ran a leg on
the 4 x 400 relay which placed fourth in 4:33.60. The other relay members
were VanHofwegen, Laura Simpson and Michelle Evers. Ashley
Biesboer placed 10th in the shot put with a distance of 31'1.73".
The Trolls established
a total of 17 school records during the indoor season. Nine of those came
on the men's side and eight for the women.
The team will
start their outdoor season during spring break when they compete at Rhodes
College in Memphis, Tennessee on March 24.
