Softball
Opens Season At Evangel (3/3/07)
The Trolls opened
the 2007 season in the Evangel Show Me Games at the Killian Sports Complex
in Springfield, Missouri. In the first day of competition they came up
empty in their three pool games. Saturday's competition was cancelled due
to weather conditions.
The Trolls opened
against the host school, Evangel University, and managed only three hits
for an 8-0 loss after six innings of play. The scoring margin widened in
the sixth inning when Evangel added seven runs to their 1-0 lead to finish
the game on the mercy rule.
In their next
game against Baker University (KS) the Trolls fell behind early, trailing
6-0 after three innings. They got on the board in the fourth inning when
freshman Breanna Palacio punched out her second hit of the game
for an RBI. Baker dampened the Trolls' spirit by adding four more urns
to go ahead 10-1 in the bottom of that inning. The game ended after five
innings with a 13-1 final.
The third opponent
for the day was Southwest Baptist University (MO). Although the Trolls
increased their offensive production, they still came up short with a 7-5
loss. Trailing 5-2 after four innings, Laura Arendsen opened the
fifth with a solo homer. The team connected on two more hits that inning
to make it 5-4. Southwest Baptist got one back in their half of the inning
and then both teams gained one run in the 6th inning. In their final bat
the Trolls were three up and three down.
The next game
for the Trolls will be a home double-header on March 13 against Kankakee
Community College at 3:00 pm.
