Finish Second at Olivet Nazarene (3/31/07)
The softball
team went 2-2 in their games at the Olivet Nazarene University Tournament.
The host schools proved to be the challenge for the Trolls, who lost to
the Tigers in their opening and final games. Their two other contests provided
victories, advancing them to the championship game. The Trolls are
now 4-13 for the season.
In the opening
game against Olivet the Trolls fell behind 5-0 after three innings. The
team scored one in the fourth and one in the sixth, but eventually fell
to a 6-2 loss.
In the second
game of the day, the Trolls faced Indiana University-Southeast. Trailing
1-2, the Trolls produced five hits in the second inning. A single by Laura
Arendsen followed by a home run by Jennifer Irvine brought in
four of those runs. Leading 6-4 after four innings, the Trolls gave themselves
some insurance with three more in the fifth for the 9-4 final score.
The Trolls opened
the second day against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The team was
the first on the board as they scored three runs in the first inning. They
added two more in the third to make it 5-1. UW-Oshkosh managed one more
in the seventh, but the Trolls took the 5-2 victory.
In the championship
game the team once again faced Olivet. The middle innings caused problems
for the Trolls as Olivet scored two in the third and five in the fourth.
A final run in the sixth inning made it 8-0 and ended the game on the mercy
rule.
The Trolls will
play again on April 4 when they travel to Purdue-North Central for a conference
double-header at 3:00 pm.
