Splits at Purdue-North Central (4/4/07)
The Trolls braved
the chilly conditions in a conference double-header at Purdue University-North
Central. The weather was conducive to runs as games produced a total of
40 runs. The Trolls lost the first game 3-13 in five innings and then came
back to win 16-8 in the six innings in the second game. The team is now
5-14 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The Trolls took
advantage of a couple of errors in the first inning of game one to get
two runs on the board. However, Purdue-North Central answered back and
doubled the scoring output in the bottom of the inning. The game got out
of hand in the third inning when Purdue-NC scored five more runs to go
ahead 9-2.
Trinity put one
more run on the board in the fifth, but the game ended on the mercy rule
in the bottom of the inning when Purdue added four runs to take the 13-3
lead.
In the second
game the Trolls got on base early and then scored three runs on a triple
by Jennifer Irvine. Irvine was later brought across the plate
for a 4-1 lead after the first inning.
Irvine opened
the third inning out with another triple. That was the start to a four
run inning that gave the Trolls an 8-6 lead. The Panthers briefly tied
the game in the fourth inning, but the Trolls exploded for five runs in
the fifth to re-establish the top spot.
After two more
runs in the sixth inning, Laura Arendsen added a solo homer to make
it 16-8. The Trolls held that 8-run lead and ended the game on the mercy
rule after that inning.
The Trolls are
scheduled to host Olivet Nazarene University on April 5 in a 3 pm double-header.
