Baseball
Gets Ninth Inning Win (4/5/07)
The Trolls used
their last at-bat to break out of a 1-1 tie and get the victory over Illinois
Institute of Technology. The 2-1 win improves the team's conference record
to 4-2 and their overall record to 8-13.
With two outs
in the bottom of the ninth inning, Rob Emmons drove a ball to left
center to bring Ryan Tevepaugh across the plate and give the Trolls
the victory. Tevepaugh had reached base after being hit by a pitch
to open the inning.
That final run
ended a 1-1 deadlock that was set in the third inning. The Trolls had scored
in the second inning when Dan Herder drove in one run. IIT answered
back in the top of the third. From then on it was a pitching battle with
neither team threatening to score.
Joel DeRuiter
was on the mound for the Trolls and gave up just two hits while striking
out seven batters.
The Trolls had
only three hits for the game, one each for Aaron Werkman, Matt Kamp,
and Rob Emmons.
The Trolls will
host Purdue-North Central in a double header on Saturday at noon.
