Softball
Loses Two to Robert Morris (4/9/07)
The softball
team suffered two conference losses to Robert Morris College (IL), losing
both games of the double-header by scores of 1-4 and 0-4. One inning in
each game made the difference and determined the outcome. The Trolls are
now 5-16 overall and 2-4 in the conference race.
The first game
was scoreless until the third inning when Robert Morris put together four
hits and took advantage of one error to get four runs. They threatened
again in the fifth inning, but the Trolls held three runners on base.
It was not until
the 7th inning that the Trolls got in the board. Jennifer Irvine
hit a double to bring Laura Arendsen across the plate.
In the second
game neither team scored until the fifth inning when Robert Morris put
one run on the board. The Trolls threatened in the sixth inning with runners
on base, but did not score.
The sixth inning
proved to be costly for the Trolls as a three-run homer by the Eagles created
a 4-0 gap. The Trolls were three up and three down in the seventh.
The Trolls had
only five hits for the day with Jennifer Irvine grabbing two of
those. Katie Heaney and Katie Singer split the pitching duties
in the first game with Heaney receiving the loss. Nichole Heyboer
pitched the second game.
The Trolls will
host Olivet Nazarene University in a double-header on April 11 at 3:30
pm.
