Track and
Field Performs Well at Elmhurst (4/14/07)
In a twenty-team
field the Trinity women's track and field team took ten places to capture
sixth overall. Ashley Biesboer made a difference in the field events
while Rita DeJong and Megan VanHofwegen scored in the sprints.
The men placed in two events for 11 points to finish 14th of the 16 competing
teams. The majority of those points came from a first place finish by Andy
Jellema in the 3000 meter.
Ashley Biesboer
set a school record in the javelin with her third place throw of 100'6".
She added a pair of fourth place finishes in the other throwing events
at 34'3" in the shot put and 105'8" in the discus.
Rita DeJong
grabbed a couple of individual honors with a fourth place finish in the
800 meter at 2:28.47 and sixth in the 200 meter at 27.64. She was also
one leg of the school record setting 4 x 100 meter relay team that posted
a time of 52.16. Katie VanderArk, Emily Buter, and Megan
VanHofwegen rounded out that team that came in third.
Van Hofwegen
individually scored in the 100 meter in fourth place at 13.66. Her time
of 28.00 in the 200 meter earned her eighth place.
Rounding out
the place finishers were Emily Buter with a fourth in the 400 meter
at 1:01.90 and Katie VanderArk in the long jump at 15'2.25" for
fifth place.
On the men's
side Andy Jellema led the pack in the 3000 meter, capturing first
place with a school-record time of 8:50.06. He was also a part of the 4
x 400 meter relay team that finished in eighth place with a time of 3:39.86.
The other members of that relay team were Mike Burr, Joey Lerner,
and Josh Seegert.
The Trolls will
compete next on April 21 at Benedictine University.
