Softball
Splits with Olivet Nazarene (4/14/07)
When the softball
team's regional cross-over tournament in Moline, IL was cancelled, they
made the best of their time with a non-conference double-header at Olivet
Nazarene University. Trinity split results with Olivet, winning the first
game 5-2, but dropping the second one 1-12. The Trolls are now 6-17 for
the season.
The Trolls tied
game one, 2-2, in the seventh inning and then scored three runs in the
extra 8th inning to take the win. The initial runs of the game came in
the early innings as both teams scored one in the second inning and Olivet
gained a run on a solo homer in the third inning.
Michelle Rusticus
opened the seventh inning with a double and two outs later was brought
across the plate to tie the game by Allison Vanderwerff's single.
The Trolls came
alive in the 8th inning. A double by Breanna Palacio brought Sarah
Lerner home. That hit was followed by a RBI single by Kelsey Larson.
Then with two outs, Kaitlin Heaney and Megan Schultz both
got singles to score one more run to make it 5-2. Olivet got one runner
on base in the bottom of the inning, but did not score.
Overall the Trolls
had 11 hits for the game, with nine different players in the action. Kaitlin
Heaney pitched the entire game for the win.
Things fell apart
early for the Trolls in the second game as the allowed five runs in the
second and four runs in the third. The team's only run came in the fourth
inning as Schultz singled to score Palacio. However, Olivet
added three in the bottom of the inning to make it 12-1.
The Trolls will
host Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN) in a conference double-header on
Monday, April 16, at 3:00 pm.
