Sweeps Calumet-St. Joseph (4/16/07)
The Trolls move
to 4-4 in the conference with two wins over Calumet College of St. Joseph
(IN). They took the first game 8-4 and followed that up with an 8-2 win
in game two. The victories give the team an 8-17 overall record.
Sarah Lerner
popped two home runs in the first game to help propel the team to a win.
The first one was a solo shot, but the second scored two runs.
The Trolls had
nine hits in the first game with six of them coming in the first inning.
That is where they gained a 4-0 lead. They made it 5-0 after two innings
before Calumet scored in the third.
The Trolls were
ahead 7-1 after six at bats. Calumet caught a couple of big hits in the
seventh inning to score three runs, but they never got closer than that.
In the second
game Calumet scored first when they hit a homer in the opening inning to
score two runs. The Trolls quickly answered as they put four on the board
with hits on Irvine and Palacio.
In the third
inning Irvine made it 5-2 with a solo homer. Palacio followed with
a double and Rusticus joined her on the base path with a single.
Amber Heaney nicely kept the hitting alive with her first home run
of the season, gaining three RBIs to make the score 8-2. That score held
until the final inning.
Jennifer Irvine
pitched the first game for the win and Katie Singer was on the mound
for the second game victory.
The Trolls will
play at Saint Xavier University on Tuesday, April 17, at 3:00 pm.
