Softball Splits Results with Cardinal Stritch  (4/20/07)
Hits and runs were in great supply in the games between Trinity Christian and Cardinal Stritch University (WI). The first game produced a total of 22 runs and 25 hits in a 12-10 victory for the Trolls. In the second game 15 players crossed the plate on 21 hits in what ended in a 7-8 loss for Trinity. The team is now 9-22 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

The Trolls had a big fourth inning in game one, scoring seven runs to increase their 2-1 lead to a 9-1 gap. All of those runs were scored with two outs and on four hits and two errors. Allison Vanderwerff's double scored one run, Jennifer Irvine picked up two RBIs on a single, and Laura Arendsen scored three on a homer.

Cardinal Stritch tightened the game by scoring one run in the bottom of that inning and then adding five in the fifth. By the end of that inning the score was 9-7.

The Trolls scored one run in the sixth inning and added two more in the seventh inning on a double by Irvine. That gave them a 12-7 cushion going into the bottom of the seventh. Cardinal Stritch made it interesting as they scored three, but that was as close at they got for the 12-10 final.

In the second game the score was tied 2-2 after three innings. A solo homer by Irvine in the 4th inning gave the Trolls a brief lead. However, Stritch came back with four in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 6-3.

Trinity got one run in the 5th and Stritch added two. Arendsen, Michelle Rusticus, Amber Heaney, and Vanderwerff all got hits in the 6th inning to help the team score three runs and to pull to within one at 7-8.

In their final opportunity the Trolls got one runner on base and advanced her to second base. However, they could not get that tying run home before the game ended.

For the two games Breanna Palacio and Jennifer Irvine each had five hits. Irvine also grabbed five RBIs while Laura Arendsen and Michelle Rusticus each had three.

The Trolls continue their conference play on Monday, April 23, at the University of St. Francis in a 3:00 pm double-header.
