Women’s Basketball Falters at Cornerstone  (11/27/07)
In their first competition in a week the Trolls struggled against Cornerstone University (MI). The team fell behind in the first half and could not catch up in the second period, eventually falling to a 62-80 loss. The team is now 2-6 for the season.

Scoreless stretches by the Trolls created problems in the first half. A five-point deficit midway through the period grew to a 10-point gap after a four minute stretch without a point. The Trolls were able to gain some of those points back, but then again failed to score for five minutes late in the half to fall behind by 12. By the end of the period the difference was 14 points, 26-40.

The second half started with the same trend as the Trolls went without a point in the first three minutes. By that time Cornerstone had built an 18 point lead. For the remainder of the half the scoring difference remained between 15-20 points until the 62-80 final.

Despite accurate shooting from the three-point arc (6-12), the team shot only a total of 38.9%. Meanwhile Cornerstone was 54.2% accurate from the floor. Brittany Kolenbrander led the team with points. Emily Thomassen was close behind with 11 points. Amanda Learned ended the evening with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Sarah Lerner had 9 points and 4 assists.

The Trolls will play next at Grand View College (IA) on Friday, November 30.
