Women’s Basketball Grabs Overtime Win  (12/14/07)
In the first day of action of the Trinity Christian College Classic the Trolls needed overtime to get an 83-80 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange College (MO). The team broke the 73-73 end of regulation tie by out-scoring Hannibal 10 to 7 in the overtime period. The Trolls are now 5-8 for the season.
 
In the first half of the game the Trolls took the top spot on the scoreboard and with six minutes left in the period had an eight point lead. However in those final minutes there was an 18 point swing as Hannibal out-scored the Trolls 20 to 2, putting Trinity down by 10 points, 27-37, at the half.
 
Trinity increased their defensive pressure in the second period and in the first five minutes had made up the point difference. Midway through the period they took a brief lead, but the Lady Trojans did not go away and in the final minutes were ahead by as much as six points. With 25 seconds left Sarah Lerner nailed a three pointer to tie the game at 71-71. Hannibal scored with seven seconds left to take the two-point lead. With three ticks left on the clock Amanda Learned went to the line and converted two free throws to tie the game and send it into overtime.
 
The Trolls were the first to score in the overtime period when Lerner hit a three. They maintained that top position on the scoreboard, but never pulled completely away. With 11 seconds left Hannibal scored on a lay-up to make it 82-80. Lerner converted one of two bonus throws with five seconds to play to make it a three point difference. The Lady Trojans had a final look with a three point attempt that missed the mark.
 
For the game the Trolls shot 39.1% from the field and 82.6% from the line. They controlled the boards with 51 rebounds to Hannibal’s 35. Sarah Lerner led all scoring with 27 points. She also had eight assists and six rebounds. Amanda Learned ended the evening with a double double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. She also handed out six assists. Emily Thomassen added 17 points and nine rebounds to the totals.
 
In the second game of the tournament Davenport University (MI) defeated Bethel College (TN), 68-60.
 
The Trolls will play Davenport University tomorrow in the 3:00 pm game while Bethel and Hannibal-LaGrange will square off at 1:00 pm.
