Men’s Basketball Defeats Illinois Tech  (12/17/07)
The Trolls recovered from their weekend loss with a decisive victory over CCAC Div. I opponent Illinois Institute of Technology. The 28 point victory, 89-61, improves the team’s record to 7-6.
 
In the first seven minutes of the game the Trolls held Illinois Tech to just two free throws, while they jumped to a 10 point lead. Trinity also took command of the boards which allowed them 17 second chance points in the period. As the half progressed the free throw line became a factor as IIT scored 13 of their 26 points from the charity stripe. By the intermission the score was 43-26.
 
The Trolls continued to control the game in the second period and in the first two minutes were ahead by 20 points. Once again free throws were a major scoring factor for IIT, who added another 17 points from the line. Overall 51 fouls were committed for the game, 32 of which were violations by the Trolls. IIT ended the game shooting 46 free throws and connecting on 30 of those.
 
For the game the Trolls shot 40.8% from the field. While IIT also shot 40.5%, they were allowed only 37 attempts while Trinity had 76. The Trolls hit 13 of their 29 three-point attempts and gave IIT only one out of eight from the arc. Trinity ended with 46 rebounds to IIT’s 33. Kurt Gruppen led the scoring with 18 while Ross Stuursma had 14, Ebiowei Porbeni had 11 and Will Bruinsma had 10. Michael Thompson was the high rebounder with seven while Kyle Lasek had six. Thompson also ended the evening with seven assists.
 
The Trolls will take a break for Christmas and then be back in action on December 29 at home against Goshen College (IN) at 3:00 pm.
