Women’s Basketball Suffers Two Road Losses  (1/5/08)
The Trolls started 2008 out with two games on the road in Kentucky. On January 4 the team came up short against NAIA Div. I No. 20 Georgetown College with a 56-64 final. The next day they fell to Berea College, 83-119. The team is now 7-10 for the season.

In the Georgetown game the score was tied five times in the first 10 minutes. Then the Trolls took control of the lead and posted a 34-27 half-time lead.

In the second half things turned around and with 12 minutes left to play Georgetown had closed the gap and took the top spot. The Trolls tied the game one more time and kept close, but never regained the lead.

For the game Trinity shot only 32.8% from the field and lost the battle on the boards. Amanda Learned was the high scorer with 12 points while Sarah Lerner had 11. Learned was also the high rebounder with nine. Lerner and Brittany Kolenbrander each had six rebounds.

In the game against Berea the Trolls shot over 50% for the game. However they took 33 less attempts than their opponent and made only four treys as opposed to the 14 good three-pointer by Berea. The team also faltered in keeping Berea off the boards, giving up 25 offensive rebounds. Another big difference in the game was that Berea scored 43 points off of Troll turnovers.

The team fought from behind the entire game. They trailed by 14 at half-time, 41-55, and then lost even more ground in the second half for the eventual 36 point loss.

Four players were in double figure scoring: Amanda Learned had 20, Sarah Lerner had 16, Brittany Kolenbrander added 14, and Christine Iwema chipped in 11. Learned led the rebounding column with nine and the assist column with six.

The Trolls will start their conference schedule on January 9 at Cardinal Stritch University at 5:00 pm.
