Men’s Basketball Takes It To Purdue-Calumet  (1/12/08)
In a home contest the Trolls grabbed the upper hand against Purdue University-Calumet and posted a 79-59 conference victory. The team is now 10-8 for the season and 2-0 in the conference.
 
From the opening bucket the Trolls had the top spot on the score board. However that lead was not by much until the final minutes of the first period when they completed an eight point run to go ahead by ten points. By the half, they were up 33-22.
 
The Trolls started the second half strong and were soon ahead by 17 points. That lead grew to as many as 21 points, but Purdue-Calumet did not go away. With eight minutes to play the Peregrines nailed a trey to cut the lead to eight points. The Trolls silenced that comeback as Will Bruinsma sunk a three-pointer to put the team back ahead by 11. Trinity maintained a double digit lead throughout the rest of the half and took the 20-point win.
 
For the game the team shot 47.0% from the field, including 9 for 20 from the arc. Will Bruinsma led the scoring with 24 points, hitting six for ten from three-point land. Ross Stuursma added 23 points to the totals and Kurt Gruppen had 18. Gruppen also had nine rebounds. Michael Thompson had seven assists for the game and Ebiowei Porbeni had eight rebounds.
 
The Trolls next game is a home contest on Wednesday, January 16, against Trinity International University (IL) at 7:30 pm.
