Women’s Basketball Falters in CCAC Game   (1/16/08)
A slow start to the game created a hole that the Trolls could not get out in a conference game against Trinity International University (IL). As a result the team suffered a 63-69 loss and drop to 8-12 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

In the first five minutes of the game the Trolls turned the ball over four times and missed five shots, allowing Trinity International to post a 17-3 lead. Throughout the rest of the half the Trolls fought to create something, but struggled to find a rhythm. By the half they trailed 25-37.

In the second period the team steady improved their game and time and time again knocked at the door. With eight minutes to play on a lay-up by Erin Zielke they pulled to within one point. TIU held them off and increased the lead to five. Then again with two minutes left another Zielke lay-up cut the margin to 59-60. The Trojans answered with a three-pointer. Later with 30 seconds left the Trolls, trailing by two, put TIU on the line. The Trojans hit the first bonus shot, got their rebound on the missed second attempt, and got a three-point play on the put-back. That sequence widened the scoring gap to six points, where it stood at the end of the game.

For the game the Trolls shot 42.9% and out-rebounded TIU by 12. Brittany Kolenbrander was the high scorer with 17 points. Sarah Lerner had 13 points and Amanda Learned had nine. Emily Thomassen was the high rebounder with eight.

The Trolls play next on January 23 when they host Saint Xavier University at 7:30 pm.
