Men’s Basketball Loses at Calumet-St. Joseph (1/30/08)
The Trolls ended their first round of conference play with a loss at Calumet College of. St Joseph (IN). The team lost the lead in the final minutes of the first half and eventually fell to a 62-76 defeat. They are now 12-10 overall and 4-2 in the CCAC.
 
For the first 15 minutes of the game the Trolls were the leaders on the scoreboard. However, in the final five minutes they only scored six points while Calumet added 16. When the half ended Trinity was down by eight at 31-39.
 
The beginning of the second half proved to be very harmful for the Trolls as Calumet went on a 15 to 2 run in the first five minutes. That spread the scoring margin to 21 points. Throughout the rest of the period the Trolls worked to erase the deficit and were able to cut it in half, but never got closer than 10 points.
 
For the game the Trolls struggled offensively, shooting only 30.6% from the field and 54.2% from the free throw line. Kurt Gruppen (20 points), Ross Stuursma (18 points), and Will Bruinsma (10 points) accounted for 48 of the team’s 62 points. Brad Martin was the high rebounder with nine.
 
The Trolls next game is on February 2 when they host Cardinal Stritch University (WI) in a conference game at 4:00 pm.
