Men’s Basketball Takes Care of Cardinal Stritch   (2/2/08)
For the second time this season the men’s basketball team defeated Cardinal Stritch University. This time it was a 68-55 victory in front a Homecoming crowd. The win improves the team to 13-10 overall and 5-2 in the CCAC.
 
Kurt Gruppen scored 12 points tin the first six minutes of the game to help the Trolls jump to a 14-7 lead. By the midway point of the half the team’s lead had increased to double digits. The got the job done defensively as the kept Cardinal Stritch to just 25% shooting and 19 points in the period. By half-time the score was 35-19.
 
Cardinal Stritch made a 6 to 0 run in the opening minutes of the second period, but the Trolls kept them in check. For the rest of the game Trinity held them at a distance. Stritch did narrow the lead down to nine points in the final minute, but the Trolls were 9 for 10 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory.
 
The team ended up shooting 41.2% from the field and 87.5% from the line. Kurt Gruppen led all scoring with 26 points (8-13 FG, 4-6 3FG, 6-6 FT). He also had nine rebounds. Ross Stuursma had 15 points, 13 of which came in the second period. Kyle Lasek had seven rebounds while Jonathan Huizinga had six.
 
The Trolls will play next on February 6 at Purdue University-Calumet (IN) at 7:00 pm.
