Women’s Basketball Struggles on the Road   (2/7/08)
It was a disappointing night for the Trolls who took another conference loss. The team dropped to 2-5 in the CCAC standings with a 65-72 defeat at Purdue University-Calumet. They are now 9-16 for the season.
 
Shooting just 28.2% from the field in the first half the Trolls fell behind the Peregrines. By half-time the difference was six points, 28-34.
 
The offensive production picked up in the second period as the team increased their shooting percentage to 43.3%. In the opening minutes of the half the Trolls got back into the game and even claimed the lead on the scoreboard. However with 13 minutes to play Purdue-Calumet went ahead 44-43 and stayed ahead for the rest of the game. With five minutes left the Peregrines had a 66-58 advantage. The Trolls were able to cut it to four points in the final two minutes, but could not completely close the gap.
 
The team ended up shooting 34.8% from the field and was 73.3% accurate from the line. Amanda Learned led the team with a double double of 21 points and 10 boards. Sarah Lerner chipped in 13 points and had three assists. Also scoring in double figures was Brittany Kolenbrander with 11 and Emily Thomassen with 10. Kolenbrander grabbed nine rebounds and Christine Iwema had five.
 
The Trolls will play at Trinity International University (IL) on Saturday, February 9, at 5:30 pm.
