Women’s Basketball Advances to Semifinals  (2/25/08)
The No. 4 Trolls moved through the first round of the conference tournament with a 92-52 win over No. 5 Purdue University-Calumet. The team will now face No. 1 Cardinal Stritch University in a semifinal game on February 27.
 
Besides a positive post-season victory, the game was marked with a career milestone for Amanda Learned who scored her 1,000 career point early in the second period. Learned ended the game with 19 points overall to bring her career total to 1,006.
 
The Trolls came out firing and kept the accurate hand through the first half in which they were 50% from the field, including 6 for 11 from the three-point arc. Within five minutes of the game’s start they had established a ten point lead. That scoring margin continued to grow and by the midway point the Trolls were ahead by 20, holding Purdue-Calumet to just seven points in those first ten minutes. By the half the difference was 28 points at 50-22.
 
Trinity continued to be solid in the second period and behind accurate shooting and control of the boards kept the scoring margin wide. By the game’s end the difference was 40 points.
 
The team ended with a .493 total field goal percentage and .579 three point percentage. They also grabbed 55 rebounds to Purdue-Calumet’s 37. Sarah Lerner led the team with 22 points, connecting on five of her eight three point attempts. She also had nine assists for the game. Amanda Learned had 19 points, shooting 7 for 10 from the floor, and eight rebounds. Emily Thomassen added 17 points, 9 rebounds, and four assists to the team’s totals.
 
The Trolls will play at Cardinal Stritch University (WI) on Wednesday, February 27, at 7:00 pm.
