Track and Field Begin Outdoor Schedule  (3/15/08)
The Trolls opened their outdoor schedule at the Wabash Relays at Wabash College (IN). The meet has a unique format as the running events are mainly relays and the field event places are a result of a combined score of two athletes. Trinity’s women’s team finished third overall and the men scored fifth overall among the five teams competing.

There were a number of good performances on the women’s side. School records were set in the 4 x 200 meter relay (1:53.87) by Emily Buter, Christine Iwema, Katie Vander Ark, and Melissa Voss, and in the sprint medley relay (1:57.14) by Alessandra Ledbetter, Buter, Danielle Swenson, and Voss. In addition Vander Ark (5-0) and Buter (4-10) combined for a first place finish in the high jump and the pair of Ashley Biesboer (101-04) and Korynn Scheeringa (89-04) took first in the discus.

Other solid performances for the day were given by Erin Zielke, who ran in the first place 4 x 400m relay and the 4 x 800m relay.

On the men’s team Tyler Kallemeyn achieved a personal best and school record in the javelin. The distance of 167-04 qualified him for the NCCAA national meet. Kallemeyn teamed up with Ryker VanDrunen for a first place finish in the discus relay with throws of 106-07 and 123-09 respectively.

In one of the few individual events Andy Jellema, who has been nursing an injury for the past couple of weeks, took 8th in the 5,000 meter. Bolaji Adeoti also had a good day, running legs in the 4 x 400, 4 x 800, and distance medley relays.

The Trolls’ next competition will be the Troll Early Season Relays held at home on March 26.
