Baseball Gets Season Underway  (3/21/08)
The Trolls headed to warmer weather and drier field conditions to get their season started. They opened on March 12 at Lindenwood University (MO) and then played six games in Florida during Spring Break. They return with just one victory in those eight contests.
 
At Lindenwood the team fell to a 0-8 start after two innings in the first game. They first got on the board in the 4th inning with two runs and then tightened the game with five more runs in the 6th. They did not get the run needed to tie the game in the final inning and took a 7-8 loss.
 
In game two they once again trailed 3-5 after three innings. Lindenwood put the game out of reach in the 5th inning with two more runs to make the final 3-7.
 
In their first game in Florida the Trolls faced Grove City College (PA). In the 3rd inning, back-to-back doubles by Mark Igyarto and Matt Kamp followed by a homerun by Joe Musolino provided the team with a 3-0 lead. Grove City gained one in the 4th inning, but the Trolls answered in the 5th inning to get the 4-1 win.
 
They were not as fortunate in the second game of the double-header as Grove City handed them a 4-16 loss.
 
On March 18 the Trolls faced two different opponents and lost to both of them. Against Florida College they had a 4-2 lead after the 5th inning. Florida gained one run in the 6th inning and then took the lead in the top of the 7th with three more runs. The Trolls were not able to get runners on base in the bottom of the inning and lost the game 4-6.
 
The second opponent of the day was Webber International University. Trinity was shut-out of that contest with a 0-5 loss.
 

The Trolls concluded their trip with a double-header at Northwood University. In the first contest the team trailed 2-5 after four innings. They made a slight gain in the 5th inning to make it 4-6. A three run homer by Joe Musolino in the 6th inning gave the Trolls the lead at 7-6. In the bottom of the 7th inning Northwood tied the game at 7-7 and pushed the game into extra innings. The Trolls got runners on base in the 8th inning, but did not produce any runs. In their at bat Northwood opened with  two singles to put runners in scoring position. They got the game-ending run on a sacrifice fly and handed Trinity a 7-8 loss.

In the second game the Trolls took a 2-0 lead after the 2nd inning, but that is all they got. Northwood took over from there and the game ended with a score of 2-12.
 
For the season Matt Kamp is leading the team with a .393 batting average while Mark Igyarto is at .368 and Joe Musolino is at .360. Overall the team is has a .285 batting average. For the pitching staff Ryan Wories has 12.1 innings for a 6.57 ERA and Randy Ditzler has a 6.97 ERA in 10.1 innings.
 
The Trolls are scheduled to play at home on Tuesday, March 25, in a conference double-header against Judson University at 1:00 pm.
