Basketball Players Receive Post-Season Honors (3/24/08)
A handful of players on the women’s and men’s basketball teams received special post-season recognition at the conference and national level.
  
For the women’s team which finished at 12-20 overall, Amanda Learned ’09 and Sarah Lerner ’08 earned the most honors. Learned was named all-conference and NCCAA all-region for the second year in a row. Lerner joined her on the all-conference team while receiving honorable mention recognition at the NCCAA region level. Emily Thomassen ’10 made the all-conference honorable mention list.
 
The men’s basketball team finished with a 23-13 overall
record, in second place in the conference, and in fifth place at the NCCAA National Tournament. Kurt Gruppen ‘09, who led the team in scoring all season, was named all-conference and NCCAA all-region. He also received national recognition with NAIA honorable mention and NCCAA Second-Team All-American status.  
 
Ross Stuursma ’09 also took all-conference honors and was NCCAA all-region honorable mention. Will Bruinsma ’10 was named to the NCCAA Nationals All-Tournament Team. For the three games of the national tournament he averaged 22.7 points per game, finishing with the second highest point average.  
  
Combining achievements on the court and in the classroom, Erin Zielke ’08 and Peter Zigterman ’08 received NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
