Track and Field Shines at North Central  (4/05/08)
Competing against schools of all divisions, the track and field team has a stellar day at the Chicagoland Championships hosted by North Central College. A large number of athletes performed personal bests and overall seven school records were set.

The women’s team scored 12 points for a 14th place finish and the men scored three points and came in 18th place. Four school records were set by the women, while the men raised the bar in three events.

After setting a school record in the 800 meter last week, senior Erin Zielke matched it this week with a school mark in the 1500 meter (4:48.23). Her time earned her a seventh place finish.

Both Katie VanderArk and Ashley Biesboer performed personal bests in their events, improving the school records they had previously set. VanderArk took fourth in the high jump with a height of 5-1.75. Biesboer finished in sixth in the javelin with a throw of 103-04.

Taking eighth place, the 1600 meter relay team of Emily Buter, Christine Iwema, Erin Zielke, and Melissa Voss, ran a 4:11.89, breaking the previous school record by less than a second.

The men’s 4 x 400 meter relay team also edged out the previous record with a time of 3:32.08. The foursome consisted of Scott Hankes, Bolaji Adeoti, Joey Lerner, and Josh Seegert.

Adeoti also set an individual record in the 800 meter with a 1:58.17 performance. He was joined in individual achievement by Ryker Van Drunen who set the school mark in the discus with a throw of 133-06.

The track and field teams will compete again on Saturday, April 12, at Elmhurst College.
