Softball Splits with Robert Morris  (4/7/08)
The Trolls picked up their first conference victory with a 5-4 win over Robert Morris College in the first game of a double-header. The second game did not go as well as the Trolls lost 1-20 after five innings. The team is now 3-14 for the season and 1-6 in the conference.
 
The scoring did not start until the third inning of the first game. Robert Morris got on the board with a two-run homer to start things off. The Trolls answered with one better as Allison Vanderwerff set a ball over the fence to score three runs. The Trolls continued to put the ball in play and by the end of the inning were ahead 5-2.
 
Robert Morris gained one back in the fourth and one in the fifth, but the Trolls were able to hold them for the 5-4 victory.
 
Trinity had four hits for the game, all coming in the third inning. Brandy Ward was on the mound for the win.
 
The first inning of the second game proved to be disastrous for the Trolls. They gave up allowed eight hits, committed three errors, and gave up 12 runs. Matters got worse when Robert Morris tagged a three-run homer in the third inning to make it 15-0.
 
The Trolls prevented the shutout in the bottom of the third when they scored one run. With two outs Allison Vanderwerff singled to get on base. Sarah Lerner followed that with a double and Laura Arendsen brought the run home.
 
Robert Morris made the most of their final at bat as they had five hits that produced five more runs. The Trolls loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, but left the runners stranded.
 
The team will play at Cornerstone University (MI) on Tuesday, April 8, in a 3:00 pm (est) double-header.
