Softball Loses Two on the Road  (4/8/08)
The Trolls fought hard, but lost both games of a double-header at Cornerstone University (MI). The first game went into extra inning before the Trolls lost 5-6 while the second game was a 4-7 defeated. The team is now 3-15 for the season.

A two-run homer by Cornerstone in the sixth inning of game one broke a 1-1 tie. The Trolls opened the seventh inning with singles by Laura Karr and Brandy Ward. After a sacrifice bunt moved them into scoring position, Allison Vanderwerff hit a double to drive the runners in and tie the game. The Trolls then held Cornerstone to end the seventh inning in a 3-3 tie.

A double by Sarah Lerner to open the eighth inning brought one runner across the plate. Later it was another double, this time by Jill Machiela, which scored one more run for the Trolls to make it 5-3. Unfortunately a couple of fielding errors in the bottom of the inning proved to be costly as Cornerstone scored three runs to end the game.

In the second game Trinity took advantage of a couple of errors and a triple by Kaylyn Bossert to score three runs and take the early lead. By the end of the third inning they still had the top spot at 4-3.

Over the next three innings Cornerstone slowly took over and chipped away at Trinity’s lead. They tied the game in the fourth inning, went ahead by two runs in the fifth inning, and then made it 7-4 in the sixth inning. The Trolls were held scoreless in their last four at bats for the loss.

Trinity will next be in action on Thursday, April 10, in a home double-header against Cardinal Stritch University at 3:00 pm.
