Softball Gets One at Calumet   (4/14/08)
The Trolls were denied the sweep of Calumet College of St. Joseph in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two. Trinity took the first game 3-2 and then lost the second game 3-4, by giving up two runs in the final inning. The Trolls are now 4-17 overall and 2-8 in the conference.

The Trolls had a total of 11 hits in the first game, allowing them to get runners on base. Three of those hits produced two runs in the second inning to give Trinity the early lead. The game held at that 2-0 score until the seventh inning when the Trolls added one more run.

In the bottom of the inning Calumet broke the shut-out with a triple that scored one runner. They scored one more time before the Trolls ended the game and took the win.

Sarah Lerner led the hitting with three hits while Holli Jensen and Kaitlin Heaney each had two. Brandy Ward pitched 6.1 innings for the win and Heaney is credited with the save.

The Trolls did not have the same success at the plate in game two and struggled to get the offense going. By the end of five innings the score was 0-2.

Holli Jensen started a rally in the sixth inning when she hit a double. Allison Vanderwerff followed that with a triple to put the Trolls on the board. Aggressive base running allowed the Trolls to score two more runs and take the 3-2 lead.

Trinity still held the advantage entering the seventh inning. Then with two outs, the Trolls walked two batters. A long ball by the next batter allowed those two runs to score and end the game at 3-4.

The Trolls will host Saint Xavier University on Tuesday, April 15, in a 3:00 pm double-header.
