Baseball Battles with Top Team  (4/15/08)
The baseball team nearly knocked off top CCAC team and NAIA ranked No. 13 University of St. Francis in the first game of a double-header. The Trolls had the lead in game one until the 7th inning. They lost that game 4-5 and then fell 3-7 in the second game. Trinity is now 7-15 overall and 4-8 in the conference.

The Trolls gave up one hit and one run in the first inning of game one, but quickly came back to even the score in the bottom of the inning. Singles by Matt Kamp and Joe Musolino in the third inning led to two runs when Adam Hoornaert doubled to bring them in.

Each team gained a run in the fifth inning to make it 4-2. A single shot homer in the sixth inning brought St. Francis one step closer. The Saints continued to threaten in the seventh inning and took the lead when a ball went over the fence, scoring two runs. The Trolls tried to keep the game alive in the bottom of the inning and got a runner on second before the game ended.

The Trolls had eight hits for the game, while St. Francis had nine. Rob Emmons and Adam Hoornaert each had two hits, with Hoornaert posted three RBIs. Ryan Wories was on the mound for 6.1 innings for the loss.

The second game did not start out as well for the Trolls as St. Francis scored two runs in the first inning. By the end of the four, St. Francis had nine hits and seven runs. The Trolls had managed only three hits in the same stretch and score one run.

The Trolls continued to fight and picked up a run in the fifth and another in the seventh to end the game with a 3-7 final.

In the end Trinity had seven hits for the game and St. Francis had ten. Hoornaert was again the leader with two singles. Randy Ditzler pitched for four innings for the loss.

The Trolls next outing is on Wednesday, April 16, when they play at IU-Northwest in a non-conference double-header at 2:30 pm.
