Baseball Blasts by IU-Northwest  (4/16/08)
The Trolls (9-15) easily moved by Indiana University-Northwest in a pair of non-conference games. Trinity had a combined total of 41 runs with 39 hits for the 10 innings of play. They won the first game 24-8 and took the second one 17-0.
 
The games were never in question as the Trolls took the lead early in both contests. In the first game they had five hits for five runs in the first inning to set the tone. By the end of the third inning the lead was 8-5.
 
Trinity blew the game wide open in the fourth inning when they added 10 more runs. IU-Northwest got three of those back in the bottom of the inning, but the Trolls capped things off with six more in the fifth inning. The game ended after five on the mercy rule.
 
The Trolls had 21 hits for the game. Catcher Chad Maatman was golden at the plate going four for four, including a double and a three-run homer. He ended with six RBIs. Rob Emmons, Joe Chimenti, and Adam Hoornaert each had three hits.
 
The second inning of game two made all the difference as the Trolls scored 12 runs, increasing their lead to 14-0. In that inning they had 10 hits including home runs by Rob Emmons, Adam Hoornaert, and Luis Gil-Sandoval.
 
The bats continued to be hot in the fourth inning when the Trolls hit four doubles to score three more runs. IUN only had four hits for the game and the Trolls held them scoreless.
 
Overall in game two Trinity had 18 hits with Ryan Wories, Adam Hoornaert, and Luis Gil-Sandoval each claiming three. Wories also had four RBIs. Mark Igyarto pitched all five inning, striking out 10 batters, and getting the shut-out.
 
The Trolls will host Illinois Institute of Technology in a single conference game on Thursday, April 17, at 3:30 pm.
